Yahoo!® TV Widget Developer Program

Welcome to the Yahoo! TV Widget Developer Program! Please join us in delivering the Cinematic Internet experience through TV Widgets, to millions of TV viewers worldwide on TVs manufactured by Samsung, Sony, LG Electronics, Toshiba, and VIZIO.

The Cinematic Internet is Yahoo!’s vision for combining the media, personalization, community, relevance, openness, and measurability of the Internet, with TV’s ease of use, reliability, hi-fidelity, and entertainment. Examples of TV Widget capabilities include tracking sports teams, watching financial stocks, photo sharing, shopping, playing games, and viewing TV shows, movies, or web videos.

Yahoo! TV Widget Development Kit

The Widget Development Kit provides you the tools you’ll need to bring the Cinematic Internet to life through TV Widgets. In order to receive the WDK, your organization needs to agree to the Yahoo! TV Widget Developer Terms of Use.

You will receive the following via digital download:

  • Virtual Machine (VM) environment
  • WDK Debian software package containing the TV Simulator

Note: TV Widget performance in the Simulator is not representative of performance on a TV. Playback of video and audio media in the Simulator might perform differently on a TV. In general, performance and media format support may differ based upon product decisions made by the manufacturer of the television. The popular media formats we expect CE TV manufacturers to support include H.264 and Windows Media version 9. However, these media formats may not be available on all TVs enabled with the Yahoo! Widget Engine.
